Distracted driving

Distracted drivers are everywhere. Often, drivers may not be aware of it. Whether it is answering a call, searching for a playlist, or you are traveling with other passengers in the car that can cause a distraction such as kids or pets. Some distractions are easier to avoid, others are harder to eliminate and prevent. That’s why managing driving distractions can help you take better control of your safety, passengers safety and other drivers on the road.

How to combat distracted driving

So, whether you are planning to take a long drive or simply just want to be safer on the roads, we have outlined our top tips to help you combat distracted driving.

Avoid using your phone

It is advised to not use your phone whilst driving in case. Though, should an emergency arise, we recommend pulling over to a safe place before making or answering a phone call.

Avoid multi-tasking

Some drivers struggle to stay focused on the road due to multi-tasking. Whether you are searching for a specific song or adjusting your seats and mirrors – we suggest addressing this before you get underway to limit and prevent distractions.

Try to limit passengers where possible

Where possible, limiting the number of passengers in your vehicle can help prevent potential distractions. The more people in your car, the more likely distractions will occur. From distracting conversations, demanding toddlers or pets or even car games – all of this activity inside of the vehicle can take your attention away from the road.

Do not eat whilst driving

Some drivers tend to grab a snack and go when they are in a rush or want to get to their destination quicker without having to stop and eat. Not only can this cause spills which is a distraction in itself, it can also make you less attentive to other drivers around you and can prevent you from acting as quickly as you could should an issue arise on the road.

If you feel tired or drowsy, pull over

Though this may sound like an obvious step, some drivers tend to continue driving through tiredness to reach their destination quicker before they stop and rest. As a general rule, if you are struggling to stay awake, you aren’t going to be alert on the roads. To stay safe, you must pull over and resume driving when you are no longer drowsy
