Do I need to service my car every year?
Car servicing includes a series of checks and tests carried out by a trained mechanic - your vehicle will be checked alongside its manufacturer's guidelines. Whilst there is no legal requirement to service your car every year, missing out on your car servicing could impact your car's performance, value and safety. During these assessments, the mechanic will check:
- Suspension
- Brakes
- Steering
- Electrical systems
- Fluids
- Engine
- Battery
- Lights
The mechanic's test will run will mainly depend on the type of servicing you opt for - whether you choose a hybrid or an interim service. Or if you are servicing a hybrid, electric or fuel-powered vehicle. A full service will include extra aspects such as coolant levels, air filters, handbrake linkages and more. If you are servicing an EV or a hybrid car, the checks will mainly focus on brake fluid changes, tyre wear and other qualities.
How will I know when my car needs servicing?
Usually, your car will give you few warning signs when it's time for a servicing. The most tell-tale sign is a flashing light on your car dashboard - this is an indicator something is wrong in your car. However, if you cannot see a flashing light, you may witness a whole host of symptoms, such as:
- Pulling to one side when steering
- Unusual sounds
- Fuel consumption more than usual
- Frequent stalking
- Vibrations
- Smoke coming from the bonnet
